Dyeing or dressing textiles - by fixing using air enriched with vapour of low boiling halogenated hydrocarbon

Dyes or textile dressings are fixed by exposing impregnated textile to air enriched with vapour of halogenated hydrocarbon boiling below 85 degrees ., at max. temp. of about 30 degrees C. Methylene chloride is pref. used. Textile is pref. submitted to treatment directly after being impregnated and without a drying step. Air is pref. continuously circulated, through bath of halogenated hydrocarbon to maintain concn. Treated textile can be further treated with H2O vapour or warm H2O to eliminate halogenated hydrocarbon. Pref. soln. or dispersion of dye or dressing contains polar swelling agent. Known process uses satd. vapour of halogenated hydrocarbon after drying textile; involving use of high temps. or reduced pressure. Novel method can operate at ambient temp. and press., saving energy and appratus costs.
