An apparatus for biological culture growth is claimed, of the type in which the culture is grown on a porous, spongy support material, such as botting paper, housed in a cabinet through which is circulated a gas charged with vapour of a selected liquid in order to maintain a desired level of humidity in the cabinet by adjusting the relative humidity of the gas. Essentially, the means of regulating the relative humidity of the gas is an automatic control system which obtains from a sample area of the support material a signal proportional to the degree of saturation in liquid of the support, the signal being used to actuate controls which regulate the proportion of liquid in the circulated gas. Pref. the signal is derived from two electrodes sandwiching the sample area and connected to an electric supply, a current measuring device being used to transmit a control signal to correct humidity conditions.
|
