The connector is for use in conjunction with battery cells having dissimilar positive and negative terminals of the press stud type. The tubular terminal (4) of the connector associated with the positive battery pole (6) is provided with an insulating skirt (7) which projects beyond the terminal and has an opening no larger than the battery terminal diamter. Thus if an attempt is made to fit the connector the wrong way round the negative battery pole (5) cannot penetrate the skirt and complete the circuit. Typically a thermoplastic is used for the skirt, which may be located in a circumferential groove in the terminal.
