1427011 Scaffolding connector C EVANS & SONS Ltd 12 Oct 1973 [13 Oct 1972] 47336/72 Heading E1S A scaffolding connector comprises a channel-section element attached to an upright 10 with the base wall of the channel spaced from the periphery of the upright, and a hook element attached to a horizontal or diagonal cross-member 11 and defining a slot to receive the base wall of the channel element, a wedge 20 being slidably mounted on the hook element for engaging within the channel element when the connector is assembled, the wedge being operable to urge those surfaces of the channel element base wall and the slot remote from the upright into firm engagement, and the hook element then being spaced from the periphery of the upright. The hook element may also be of channel-section, with aligned slots in its side walls and an inclined base wall, and flanges 18 for fixing to the cross-member 11, and the wedge 20 is captively mounted therein to co-operate with the base walls of both channel elements. The wedge is formed with a longitudinal joggle 23 or recess engaging with a projection 25 on the inside of the hook element for guiding the wedge, and is made thicker at its lower end for jamming in the raised inoperative position. |
