Coating compsn. for protection of glass during storage and handling - contg. vinyl! acetate-vinyl! chloride copolymer

A protective coating for glass comprises (a) 200 pts. wt. copolymer of vinyl acetate and vinyl chloride contg. 8-15 wt.% vinyl acetate; (b) 15-75 pts. wt. plasticiser such as diisodecyl phthalate; and (c) 50-750 pts.wt. of a solvent, pref. a MEK/toluene mixt. contg. =85 wt.% MEK. The coating compsn. pref. contains an amt. of butanol to confer a satisfactory transparency to the coating. When the coating is applied on a sheet of glass, its pH is pref. 4-6. Acetic acid can be added to adjust the pH. The coating peels off easily when necessary.
