The door-lock is for use for automobiles and incorporates a pivoting forked bolt (7) which acts with a pivoting cammed ratchet plate (15) to engage a staple pin (4) on edge of the door. The geometry of the bolt and ratchet plates is such that both legs (13, 14) of the former (7) are retained by counter faces (25, 31) of the latter (15) when in the locked relationship. A nominal lateral play is provided between the leading leg (13) of the bolt and the corresponding counter-face (25) of the ratchet. The normal to the interacting faces (31, 32) of the primary tooth (30) of the ratchet and the rear leg (7) of the bolt may pass through the fulcrum axle (16) of the ratchet, and the tangent to these faces may pass through the fulcrum axle (8) of the bolt, thus, eliminating couples about the axles.
