The setting mechanism is for the grinder head of a rail-grinding machine, having an adjusting wheel (19) for the height of a motor-driven grinder head or disc (13). The head or disc is driven directly via a rubber centrifugal clutch (16), its setting movement being vertical and effected from the side of the disc shaft (12). The setting mechanism can have an adjusting screw (20) working in a tapped component (21) which it moves up and down, this movement being transmitted to the grinder disc via the grinder head housing (11).
