Deodourising cosmetic compsns. contain, as active ingredient, multiply branched alkanoic acid amides having formula R1R2R3C-(CH2)n-CONR4R5 (I) (where R1 is branched or linear 1-6C alkyl; R3 is H or branched or linear 1-6C alkyl; n is 0 or 1; provided that the acyl gp. contains 6-16C and that branching occurs in 2 or more positions of at least one main constituent. R4 and R5 each is H, branched or linear 1-8C alkyl, cycloalkyl, aralkyl or aryl or R4 and R5 together with the amide-N form a heterocycle). The deodorants contain 0.1-5 (0.5-2) wt.% (I) and pref. also 0.01-1 (0.05-0.5) wt.% anti-oxidants. (I) are used in deodorant powders, sticks, roll-ons and esp. sprays. (I) suppress body-odour, are odourless and cause no side-reactions.
