The opening of the chimney damper in an oil fired heating furnace is controlled by a hydraulic cylinder acting against a spring to open the damper. The hydraulic cylinder is supplied through a hydraulic line from a power cylinder using a non-flammable working fluid. The power cylinder has a free piston with the non-flammable fluid above and oil from the burner oil pump below. The burner oil pump is motor driven from the electrical mains through a regulator and draws oil from a tank, delivering the oil to a burner and to the damper power cylinder. Oil is taken away from the power cylinder by a valve operated by the thermostat for the heater. The thermostat and a pyrostat control the operation of the oil pump motor. |
