The invention relates to an insulating slab (1) for outer walls of buildings, which possesses a profile on its outer surface in order to apply finishing coat plasters (3) of low elasticity. This profile in the form of raised ribs (2, 2a, 10) extending diagonally to the horizontal and vertical edges of the insulating slab (1) produces, due to natural temperature fluctuations, above the ridges (4) of the ribs (2, 2a, 10), predetermined fracture points in the form of virtually invisible hairline cracks, and thus diamond-shaped areas (8), in the finishing coat plaster (3). By dividing the finishing coat plaster (3) up into relatively small diamond areas (8), only a very small expansion in the finishing coat plaster (3) in relation to the individual diamond area results, even in the case of large temperature differences. <IMAGE>
