A rotor-supplied shunt-wound motor having a multiple of three phases and having p pairs of poles (where p is equal to at least 2), having m2 phases in the secondary circuit (where m2 is an odd number), and having a brush apparatus having two brush carriers which surround the commutator in the form of an annulus and can rotate in opposite directions and to whose brush straight edges (which are arranged distributed uniformly over the circumference) the starts and ends of the winding strands of the secondary stator circuit are connected, has m2 phases in the secondary circuit, where m2 is greater than 3. Each brush carrier (1) is fitted with a number of brush straight edges (61 to 6v) corresponding to the number of phases m2, such that only every p-th of all the possible brush straight edges (61 to 6v, 6'1 to 6'v), counted sequentially, is present. <IMAGE>
