PURPOSE:A thermoplastic resin showing good moldability and excellent mechanical properties, comprising a specified, substantially gel-free terpolymer of a branched structure. CONSTITUTION:A vinyl aromatic compound (e.g., styrene) is copolymerized with a vinyl cyanide compound (e.g., acrylonitrile) and a polyfunctional monomer (e.g., divinyl-benzene or trimethylolpropane trimethacrylate, used in an amount such that a methyl ethyl ketone solution containing 5% produced copolymer remains non-turbid and clear at room temperature). Although the produced branched copolymer itself has excellent mechanical strength and moldability, it may be blended further with a rubber-reinforced thermoplastic resin (e.g., ABS resin) to improve its moldability without detriment to mechanical properties.
