PURPOSE:To prepare an amorphous compound material of Te-Ba system useful as a polycrystalline thin film material having orientating properties, by melting a mixture of TeO2 and BaO under heating, quenching it extremely. CONSTITUTION:A mixture of TeO2 and BaO is melted under heating to give a melt, which is put in the tube 7 supported by the bearing member 9, electricity is applied to the dielectric heating coil 5, the mixture of the raw material is heated to a temperature 50-120 deg.C higher than the melting point of the mixture of the raw material, it is sprayed from the mouth part of the nozzle 11 upon the surface of the quenching roll 13 revolving at 5-35m/sec peripheral speed at 0.1-2.0kg/cm<2> pressure, extremely quenched at 10<4>-10<6> deg.C/sec, to give an amorphous compound material of Te-Ba system having a composition shown by the formula (TeO2)1-x.(BaO)x (x is in 0<x<=0.70) and 10-50mum thickness. Then, the compound material is subjected to thermal analysis, crystallization temperature is obtained, and the material is heat-treated at a temperature <= the crystallization temperature for a given time.
