In a process and an appliance for fibring mineral melts, the melt is conveyed in the form of a continuous jet 10 from the outside to a rotating wheel 12. From the wheel, the melt is thrown out with the formation of fibres or it is conveyed onwards to other similar wheels 15, with the jet 10 being shielded from particles 16, 17 which are thrown out from the wheel or the wheels. While the melt jet shield can consist of one or more solid shields which are mounted behind and/or in front of the melt jet 10, seen in the direction of forwarding of this jet or in the direction of fibre formation, the shield preferably consists of rotating cylindrical bodies whose axes are vertical and parallel with the melt jet 10, or are horizontal and mounted in the main perpendicular to the melt jet. <IMAGE>
