PURPOSE:To constitute inexpensively a developer check device by comparing a stored density of reference control strips with that of sample control strips to discriminate whether a developer is proper or not by a developer properness discriminating means. CONSTITUTION:The density of a developer check film 42 is measured to check the developer. This film 42 consists of a control strip 44 and a control strip mask 46, and both of them 44 and 46 are put one over the other to measure three stages of film density. That is, nine-stage film density parts are taken on the control strip 44, and transparent parts 58, 60, and 62 are formed in a black part 56 on the control strip mask 46 correspondingly to a low density part LD52 and a high density part HD54, and this black part is shielded from light so that it measures densities of only the lowest density part 50, the low density part 52, and the high density part 54 but does not measure densities of parts around said parts.
