PURPOSE:A specific enzyme is used to effect the reaction between a cholesterol and fatty acid whereby the title compound which is used as a hydrophilic base material for medicines and cosmetics is obtained in high yield readily under mild reaction conditions. CONSTITUTION:The catalytic reaction between a compound bearing a steroid skeleton and hydroxyls in its molecule such as cholesterol and a fatty acid is carried out using a lipase or cholesterol esterase, usually in an aqueous medi um, preferably at 10-60 deg.C to give the objective compound. It is preferred to use 5,000-50,000 units of lipase or 500-50,000 units of cholesterol esterase per 1g. of the cholesterol. Further, the amount of the fatty acid used is 3-6 times the molar amount of the cholesterol.
