PURPOSE:To prevent an elution of an alkaline ion to the liquid crystal, and to improve a display quality by applying a film consisting of SiO2-Ta2O5-Al2O3 to an insulating film interposed between a glass substrate and an electrode film. CONSTITUTION:The insulating film 2 is adhered on the glass substrate 1, and the electrode film 3 is formed on the film in a shape replied to the display pattern. The orientation film 4 is coated on the film 3 so as to make a flat on the upper surface of the film 3. The two sheets of the orientation films 4 are arranged through spacers 5 countering the orientation film sides each other, to form a gap, and the liquid crystal 6 is enclosed into the gap to form the titled element. The electrode film 3 consisting of SiO2-Ta2O5-Al2O3 is coated on the glass substrate 1. By coating the substrate with the specific insulating film, the Na ion does not elute from the glass to the liquid crystal, and the refractive index of the insulating film may be near to that of the electrode film whereby the electrode pattern becomes to difficult to see, resulted in improving a visibility of the titled element.
