PURPOSE:To obtain the titled large resin particle having high water absorptivity, a high absorption rate of water and excellent dispersibility, by effecting the reversed phase suspension polymerization of an aqueous solution containing a vinyl monomer having a COOH group or the like in a dispersant-containing organic solvent in the presence of a specified functional compound. CONSTITUTION:An aqueous solution (concentration of 35-39%) of a vinyl monomer having a COOH group or a carboxylate group as a functional group in the molecule [e.g., (meth)acrylic acid (salt)] is polymerized by reversed phase suspension polymerization at 50 deg.C or above for 30min-6hr in the presence of a polymerization initiator in an organic solvent (e.g., cyclohexane) in which 0.5-15%, based on the monomer, dispersant comprising an oil-soluble polymeric compound (e.g., ethylcellulose) is dissolved and in which0.01-10%, based on the water-absorptive resin, at least one monofunctional compound selected from among a monoglycidyl compound of formula I [wherein R1 is (1-12C alkyl)phenyl or 1-20C alkyl, m is 2-3 and n is 1-60] and a polyalkylene glycol acrylate compound of formula II (wherein R2 is R1 and R3 is H or CH3) are further dissolved.
