PURPOSE:To detect the abnormality of a rotating speed sensor easily at low cost by deciding that the rotating speed sensor is abnormal when detecting the pressure in the suction pipe at the downstream side of a throttle valve being below specific pressure and the rotating speed detected by the rotating speed sensor being below a specific rotating speed. CONSTITUTION:When an engine rotating speed is below the specific rotating speed N1, it is decided whether absolute pressure PBA is below specific pressure P1 or not. The specific pressure P1 is the absolute pressure in a suction manifold 4 which is obtained during the rotating speed of an engine 5. When PBA<=P1, it is judged that the rotating speed sensor 11 is abnormal and an alarm lamp 34 is turned on, so the abnormality of the rotating speed sensor 11 is warned to a driver, etc. Consequently, the abnormality of the rotating speed sensor is detected securely without using any expensive shift position sensor.
