PURPOSE:To maintain high volumetric and adiabatic efficiencies regardless of varied flow rates by employing a means for changing volume of a space formed between a piston and a cylinder. CONSTITUTION:When a setting value Gs of a flow rate G of a fluid is raised in an attempt to raise the flow rate of a compressible fluid, a control device 81 increases heating amount of operation fluid at a heater 46 through a cable 82. This increases both amplitude Xcv of a cylinder 52 and the flow rate G. At this time, amplitude Xpc of a piston 53 increases and a clearance volume at the top dead point of the piston 53 decreases according to the increase in amplitude Xcv of the cylinder 52. With the decrease in the clearance volume, both volumetric efficiency yvol and adiabatic efficiency yad increase.
