PURPOSE:To prevent blind printing from occurring, by fitting a paper sensor to a printing head, and avoid printing at a position at which a paper is absent. CONSTITUTION:When a printing head 10 is located on a paper 13, a paper sensor 12 detects the presence of the paper 13, whereas when the head 10 is located outside the area of the paper 13, the sensor 12 detects the absence of the paper 13. A printing-controlling circuit 14 outputs a signal (b) for driving the head 10, and the sensor 12 outputs a signal (d) indicative of the presence or absence of the paper 13. Normally, the signal (b) is outputted directly as a signal (c), but when the signal (d) from the sensor 12 indicates the absence of the paper, no signal is outputted as the signal (c). Printing head pins 11 are operated to print in response to the input of the signal (c). With the head 10 thus controlled so as not to print in the absence of the paper, blind printing can be obviated, and the useful life of the head can be prolonged. |
