PURPOSE:To provide a gas leakage detector of a combustion type heater for use in a vehicle capable of detecting a gas leakage and extraordinary heating by providing first and second carbon monoxide detectors on an air inlet side and an air outlet side of a heat exchanger connected with a combustion type heater. CONSTITUTION:A carbon monoxide gas sensor 5 for ambient air is provided within a duct between a blower 3 and a heat exchanger 2. Further, a carbon monoxide gas sensor 6 for space heating air is provided in a duct from the heat exchanger 2 to a vehicle compartment. When a temperature sensor 4 detects extraordinary heating of the heat exchanger, a controller 9 stops the operation of a fuel pump 8. Simultaneously with this, the controller 9 operates an actuator 7 and actuates a changeover door 10 to discharge space heating air outside the compartment. Thus, extraordinarily heated air is prevented from being supplied into the compartment. Further, when a combustion gas leaks into a duct, monoxide carbon gas sensors 5 and 6 detects that the concentration of carbon monoxide has varied.
