PURPOSE:To displace the relative position between a recording carrier and a recording head and to stabilize a power source voltage by providing the 1st start mode accelerating the rise of a drive means and the 2nd start mode saving energy and appropriately using them under the circumstances. CONSTITUTION:The recording head 5 records a signal on the magnetic disk 2 of a recording device, and a motor 88 rotates the disk 2. A step motor 49 displaces the relative position of the disk 2 and the head 5, and is controlled by a step motor control circuit 87. A system controller 91 controls the circuit 87 and a motor control circuit 89. a power transistor TR 89-1 controlling a voltage impressed on the motor 88 is installed between the control circuit 89 and the controller 91. Power applied to the motor 88 is limited to the 1st value in the 1st mode of an A/D converter 89' applied to the base, and further limited to the lower 2nd value in the 2nd mode, whereby a power source circuit 93 is stabilized and its service life is prolonged.
