PURPOSE:To attain the high speed write by providing a semiconductor programmable read only memory writing a data representing a region to be written in writing a digital data on an optical disk medium in a cartridge. CONSTITUTION:When a write command is fed from a device interface 9 to an optical disk device 2, a control circuit 8 reads a write management data of an optical disk medium 3 from a PROM 4 mounted on an optical disk cartridge 1 by a PROM read/write circuit 5. The write management data is a data whose written region is registered in writing a data to the optical disk medium 3. The written region to the optical disk medium 3 confirms that it is not already the written region by a write command by observing the write management data, the region of the optical disk medium 3 for write is registered in the write management data and the write management data is registered in a PROM mounted on the optical disk cartridge 1 by the PROM read/write circuit to execute the write.
