PURPOSE:To reduce the number of bits of KANJI (Chinese character) code by setting up attribution selecting data on the most significant bit (MSB) of the 1st or 2nd byte. CONSTITUTION:The 1st and 2nd bytes of the 1st JIS KANJI code are 21-4F (hexadecimal) and 21-7E (hexadecimal) and the 1st and 2nd bytes of the 2nd JIS KANJI code are 50-7E (hexadecimal) and 21-7E (hexadecimal). Thereby, 00-20 and 7F-FF (hexadecimal) are not used in both the 1st and 2nd bytes. Therefore, the MSBs of the 1st and 2nd bytes are especially selected as the bits requiring no decoding circuit out of the unused parts and either one of them is used for attribution.
