PURPOSE:To prevent a thermal transfer carbon ribbon from staggering, wrinkling or slipping even when the take-up roll diameter is increased, by providing a feeding aid roller means for energizing the ribbon in a taking-up direction thereof, between a take-up shaft for the ribbon and a printing means. CONSTITUTION:A belt 30 is fitted between a pulley 27 on an intermediate shaft 25 and a pulley 29 on a feeding aid roller 28 so that the roller 28 can obtain a take-up energizing force in the same direction as a taking-up direction of a take-up shaft 12. A rubber member 31 is fitted over the roller 28, and a thermal transfer carbon ribbon 8 already used for printing is wrapped around the member 31, over about one half of the circumference of the member 31. As the take-up roll diameter of the ribbon is increased with the progress of the printing, a tension on the ribbon is gradually decreased. However, since the roller 28 is rotated to energized the ribbon 8 in the taking-up direction thereof, the ribbon 8 can be fed toward the take-up shaft 12 while compensating for the loss in the tension.
