PURPOSE:To achieve reduction in the cost wit the saving of the number of ultrasonic sensors, by reflecting an ultrasonic beam in multiple directions with a rotary reflector to measure the distance to an object at various directions. CONSTITUTION:A rotary reflector 3 for reflecting an ultrasonic pulse in multiple directions is arranged in front of an ultrasonic sensor 1 as inclined to the center line C of the beam while being driven to rotate about the center line C by a motor 5 controlled through a motor driving circuit 4. A transmitting/receiving circuit 2 and the motor driving circuit 4 are controlled with a control circuit 6 and each time the rotary reflector 3 rotates by a specified angle preset in plurality, an ultrasonic pulse is emitted from the ultrasonic sensor 1 to detect reflected waves from the object. In this manner, the distance to the object from the rotary reflector 3 is measured at various emission angles.
