PURPOSE:To eliminate the disturbance in the thermal equil. state of nitrogen molecules by laser light and to measure the true gas temp. by controlling the light energy density of a laser light condensing part to <=2X10<10>watt/cm<2> and operating a multiplex coherent anti-Stockes Raman scattering CARS method. CONSTITUTION:The multiplex CARS method which condenses the laser light (respective wave numbers are designated as omegap, omegas) of two kinds of different wavelengths to a point to be measured via a lens and matches omegap-omegas at the oscillation energy level difference of the nitrogen molecules so as to exist in the laser light condensed part is so operated by weaking the laser light intensity that the light energy density of the laser light condensed part attains <=2X10<10> watt/cm<2> lower than the conventional dielectric breaking strength of air. The lower limit of the intensity of the laser light having the lower intensity is preferably set at about 2X10<7>watt/cm<2>. The reason for such limitation lies in that noises are increased if the intensity is lower than said limit. The method for adjusting the intensity of the laser light includes a method for installing light attenuators to outlets of various dye laser beams 04 and 05.
