PURPOSE:To confirm the action of an electronic dictionary by displaying sequentially the number of headers showing the parallel translation or the meaning of words corresponding to character strings every prescribed numbers and showing an actually counting-up data. CONSTITUTION:The character strings supplied from a keyboard 1 are stored in a retrieving memory 4. A 1st dictionary 5 is incorporated into an electronic dictionary main body 6 and a 2nd dictionary 7 functioning as an external dictionary is connected to the main body 6. An M-counter 12 of the memory 4 counts the number of headers including phrases which are retrieved by both dictionaries 5 and 7. The number of headers are displayed on a display panel 11 every prescribed numbers. Then the total number of headers are displayed on the panel 11.
