PURPOSE:To make a device functional for a variety of kinds by controlling the number of revolutions of a spindle motor and changing an inner circuit over to another in response to a rotating speed changeover signal and also a data transfer speed signal respectively which are received by an interface part. CONSTITUTION:The rotating speed changeover signal 31a in H-level and data transfer speed signal 31b in H-level are sent out of a host system 2, and both signals are independently received by the interface parts 41a and 41b respectively. Then, the number of revolutions of the spindle motor is turned into 3,600r.p.m. by a rotating speed control means 51a, while the inner circuit is changed by a changeover control means 51b over to that of the gain of an amplifier, a differentiator and a filter to suit the data transfer speed 500kbps, so that the flexible disk device is functional as an 8-inch flexible disk device. By the same token, the changeover is feasible in accordance with other kinds of function, and hence the device can function as a multirole device of >=2 kinds.
