PURPOSE:To detect surely sheets mounted on a mounting portion by providing a sheet moving member which protrudes out of a sheet mounting surface as a result of the decrease of sheets at the mounting portion and moves the sheets toward a sheet detection portion. CONSTITUTION:An arm member 16 arranged in a cassette C2 is energized by means of an arm spring 19 so as to protrude upward. And, when a number of thick sheets P1 are mounted on a middle plate 12, the arm member 16 is pressed by sheets P1 and locates itself at the lower part than a sheet mounting surface. Next, when sheets P1 decrease due to being fed successively, the arm number 16 pushes up the decreased sheets P1 so as to come into contact with a sensor arm 9. Accordingly, sheets P1 are detected without a mistake by a sheet sensor consisting of a photo sensor and the sensor arm 9.
