PURPOSE:To prevent the deterioration of a picture quality by constituting a synthesizing circuit so as to reduce a synthesis ratio to the output of a Y/C separator by a comb line filter as the output of an interleaving decision part is increased. CONSTITUTION:The titled separator is provided with a Y/C separating part 12 consisting of the Y/C separator 12a conposed of the comb-line filter, the Y/C separator 12b composed of a frequency separating filter and the synthesizing circuit 12C for synthesizing the outputs of both the Y/C separators and the interleaving decision part 15c for deciding the degree of an interleaving in a video signal to be Y/C separated. A deviation from the interleaving generated at the time of a variable speed reproduction from a video tape recorder or the like is decided in the interleaving decision part 15c and the synthesis ratio to the output of the Y/C separator 12a consisting of the comb-line filter is reduced according to the scale of this deviation. Consequently, the deterioration of the picture quality at the time of the variable speed reproduction or the like is effectively prevented.
