PURPOSE:To produce a composite material having a homogeneous structure by specifying the density ratio of matrix alloy molten metal to ceramic grains and cooling ratio at the time of dispersing said grains into said molten metal. CONSTITUTION:At the time of producing a composite material by dispersing the ceramic grains into the molten metal of matrix alloy, the density ratio of the density of the matrix alloy molten metal to the density of the ceramic grains to be dispersed is regulated to 0.7-1.3 and they are quenched at >=10 deg.C/sec cooling ratio. As for said ceramic grains, one or more kinds among SiC, Si3N4, ZrO2 and Al2O3 are used; the grain diameter is regulated to 0.5-100mu and the volume ratio of dispersoid to the molten metal is regulated to 1-50vol.%. In this way, the composite material useful as the parts material for which wear resistance and rigidity are required is obtd.
