The invention relates to a method of constructing a tunnel with a shield driving machine with a rotating boring head in non-cohesive soils and/or soft rock material and/or silty soils which in each case are interspersed with erratic blocks of up to about 1.5 m diameter of more solid rock. Furthermore, a shield driving machine for carrying out the method is specified.
