PURPOSE:To make possible printing without the deterioration of printing quality or the breakage of a printing head by detecting the section, which requires adjustment of a gap, of paper with a thickness which varies with spots before printing and performing adjustment of the gap in such a spot during printing. CONSTITUTION:When paper with a thickness which varies with spots is used, a learning mode is designated by a command from a host device 28. If this mode is designated, CPU 21 obtains a printing area on paper as indicated by an oblique line on printing data from the host device 28, and performs adjustment of a gap per certain division while moving a carriage 11 in printing directions(Arrows X,Y) to said area. Consequently, the thickness in each section is detected and it is stored in RAM 24. Then a printing mode is designated by a command from the host device 28. If this mode is designated, CPU 21 performs adjustment of the gap in a section which requires adjustment of the gap according to a table prepared in RAW 24 while moving the carriage 11 in the printing directions (arrows X,Y). |
