PURPOSE: To enable rapid drying without adversely affecting fog, kink and other surface state during coating. CONSTITUTION: When the top of a substrate is coated with at least one photosensitive silver halide-gelatin emulsion layer and the resultant photosensitive element is dried at an elevated temp., an effective amt. of high b.p. arom. alcohol represented by formula I, phenoxy-2-propanone, 2-methoxyethanol or 2ethoxyethanol is incorporated into the emulsion layer before the drying process. A film element having diminished surface defects is produced. In the formula I, R is -O-CH2 -CH2 -O-R<4> , R<1> is H or-O-CH3 and R<2> is H, -OH or -CH3 .
