<p>Operating system (GPOS) for a universal device (GPU) coupling a computer bus (PSB) to at least one specific link of a network (RN), the device comprising: - a microprocessor (CPU) associated with at least one memory (SRAM) containing this system, - means for transferring frames (MPC, B2, VRAM, B1, DMAC) from the computer bus to the link, characterised in that, being associated with a plurality of mutually-independent applications (A1 to An), it comprises: - a central kernel (NY) managing and organising the work of each of the applications in real time, - an application manager (GA) which oversees and defines the state in which each of the applications should be, - an intercommunication server (SA) for the applications allowing each of them to request the services of another when that proves to be necessary, the kernel, the manager and the intercommunication means communicate with each other by executive calls.
