摘要 <p>PURPOSE: To make it possible to position a large number of thin papers including paper copy sheets and to stack them in a fixed tray or a bin by an orbital nip system. CONSTITUTION: A nip 17 is orbited with a sheet 11 inside the nip 17 until it is adjacent to the desired maximum stack height inside a fixed sheet stacking tray, so that the sheet 11 in this initial nip position is fed out towards a positioning wall 20 at a preset nip feeding velocity. Then, when the edge of the sheet 11 is within approximately 10 millimeters of the registration stacking wall 14, the nip 17 is orbited away from the positioning wall 20 and downwardly at an orbiting angular velocity which is slower than the nip feeding velocity, so that the remainder of the sheet is fed towards the positioning wall 20. Consequently, the portion of the sheet downstream of the nip 17 is caused to downwardly buckle and hold the edge of the sheet 11 against the positioning wall 20.</p>
