PURPOSE:To obtain a binder for glass fiber, excellent in film-formability, good in stability of a solution with time, thermal decomposability, etc., with hardly any fluffing by constructing the binder from a water-soluble polyurethane resin having a specific composition and properties. CONSTITUTION:Ethylene oxide or the ethylene oxide and propylene oxide are added to a compound having hydroxyl group (e.g. ethylene glycol) to produce a water-soluble polyoxyalkylene compound (e.g. polyoxyethylene glycol) and the resultant water-soluble polyoxyalkylene compound is then made to react with a polyisocyanate (e.g. 4,4'-diphenylmethane diisocyanate) to produce a water-soluble polyurethane resin having 20000-500000 weight average molecular weight and >=60wt.% content of the oxyethylene unit. This water-soluble polyurethane resin is used as a binder for glass fiber. |
