PURPOSE:To obtain a highly shrinkable material suitable for a high-density fabric having a specific dry thermal stress and wet heat shrinkage factor by treating elution type conjugate fiber containing a specified readily alkali-soluble polymer as one component with an alkali. CONSTITUTION:This island-in-sea type conjugate fiber is composed of polyester- based thermoplastic polymers which are two completely independently separated components (A) 1 and (B) 2 and obtained by copolymerizing 5-sodium sulfoisophthalic acid in an amount of deg.2.0mol% based on the total acid component, blending the resultant modified polyethylene terephthalate with 6.0-20.0wt.% polyalkylene glycol, treating the prepared blend with an aqueous solution of caustic soda (60g/l) at 50 deg.C, providing a readily alkali-soluble polymer having >=100%/hr dissolution rate, using the prepared readily alkali-soluble polymer as the component (B) and forming the conjugate fiber. The resultant conjugate fiber is then subjected to alkali weight reduction treatment at <=60 deg.C temperature to afford a material, composed of only the component (A) having 1.5-0.1dpf side, >=30mg/d dry thermal stress at 90 deg.C and high shrinking ability of >=5% wet heat shrinkage factor in water at 90 deg.C under 10mg/d load. |
