<p>An eyeglass selection system (10) includes a lens carrier (12, 12'') mounted in a viewer module (14). An eye chart (16) is connected to the viewer module (14) and lens carrier (12, 12'') by an elongated arm (20). The lens carrier is an elongated strip (12) or circular disk (12'') having a plurality of lenses (22-31), each with a different refractive power, along its length or perimeter. These lenses (22-31) are molded in a one-piece lens/carrier assembly (12, 12''). For each eye, an untrained person looks at the eye chart (16) with one eye through an opening (62) in the viewer module (14) and a single lens on the carrier (12, 12''). The carrier (12, 12'') is moved so that each lens (22-31), in turn, is used in viewing the eye chart (16) until a clear image is viewed. The lenses (22-31) that provide clear images are identified from indicia (38) on the carrier (12, 12'') and eyeglass are assembled from kits containing lenses (98) and a selection of eyeglass frames (100) that can accommodate the selected lenses.</p> |
