PURPOSE:To improve workability as a negative electrode, reduce the internal impedance of a cell, and decrease its dispersion by extruding a lithium ingot in the mixed atmosphere added with a trace quantity of carbon dioxide to the inert gas or dry air and forming a lithium carbonate layer on the surface of a lithium layer. CONSTITUTION:A lithium ingot is extruded in the mixed atmosphere added with a trace quantity of carbon dioxide to the inert gas or dry air, lithium and moisture are reacted, a passivated film of lithium oxide or lithium hydroxide is formed on the lithium surface. The lithium oxide or lithium hydroxide is reacted with carbon dioxide to generate lithium carbonate on the lithium surface. Since only carbon dioxide is used as the additive gas, the concentration control is easy, no dispersion of the internal impedance occurs. Carbon dioxide has no corrosivity and no toxicity, thereby the handling and management of the gas is easy and the workability can be improved. |
