The data transmission protocol sends a first block of data representing the speed of the vehicle. This block has a first word representing the distance travelled by the vehicle during a set time increment. A second word indicates activity and rest periods for one or two drivers. The third word represents the parameters controlling the state of the tachygraph. Fourth and fifth words form an error checking code to detect transmission errors. The second data block concerns engine speed of the vehicle, and is similarly structured to the first block, and also has words representing the work and rest times of the drivers. The signal is collected optically, using phase modulation, and sent to the external computer via a serial connection.
