PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a measuring element for an air flowmeter and an air flowmeter containing the same measuring element capable of satisfactorily measuring the rate of air flow even in the case that a large degree of difference occurs between the temperature of the air flow rate measuring device and the temperature of drawn air. SOLUTION: In this device, two heating resistors which are upstream heating resistor 4a and downstream heating resistor 4b, a following-flow temperature sensing resistor 5a and reverse-flow temperature sensing resistor 5b corresponding to the above-mentioned heating resistors one to one are formed of resistor films on a substrate 32, and a part of the following-flow heating resistor 4a forming a pair with the upstream heating resistor 4a is patterned in a location with a lower surface temperature on the substrate 32 than the resistor film of a temperature compensating resistor forming a pair with the above mentioned downstream heating resistor.
