Production of transgenic plants (A) that express a protein (I) able to produce hydrogen peroxide by transforming plant cells with Agrobacterium rhizogenes containing a vector that carries a gene (II) encoding (I), then selection made for expression of (II) in a colorimetric test using peroxidase Plants are regenerated from selected roots and expression monitored on the resulting plantlets by a similar test. Phenotypic screening, and optionally molecular analysis of the lineage of transgenic plants, is used for selection (or confirmation) of plants that contain the transgene only, but not the T-DNA of A. rhizogenes. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) similar process in which A. rhizogenes contains recombinant DNA that includes (II) and a gene (III) that encodes a protein (IV) of interest; and (2) plants, and their parts, produced this way. |
