<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To arrange intake pipes for multicylinder engines with three or more in-line cylinders from a surge tank at one end of the cylinder line to the cylinders so that the cylinders have minimum dispersion in intake resistance and the overall piping layout becomes compact relative to the engine body. SOLUTION: A multicylinder engine 1 comprises an engine body having three or more in-line cylinders, at one end of which line a surge tank 9 is arranged to receive one-side ends of intake pipes 7 in a direction practically parallel to the cylinder line direction with the distal ends connected with the intake ports of the cylinders of the engine body. The intake pipes 7 defining intake passages of the generally same length from the surge tank 9 to the intake ports are bend into a substantially spiral shape, so that the overall piping layout presents a nearly conical shape expanding toward the surge tank 9.</p> |
