<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical modulator in which interaction can be established appropriately between a signal electrode and an optical waveguide only by equalizing the phase at the input terminal of the signal electrode. SOLUTION: The optical modulator 10 is equipped with an optical waveguide 12 in which the intermediate part is divided into two Y branch waveguides, namely a first and a second waveguide arms, a first signal electrode 13 which conducts a first electric signal which performs predetermined interaction with first light propagating through the first waveguide arm, a second signal electrode 14 which conducts a second electric signal which performs predetermined interaction with second light propagating through the second waveguide arm, and earth electrodes 16, 17, and 18. The timing at which the first electric signal and the first light interact and the timing at which the second electric signal and the second light interact can be made coincident at the first input terminal which supplies the first electric signal and the second input terminal which supplies the second electric signal.</p> |
