PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for measuring body fat, which allows a visceral fat quantity to be simply and precisely estimated, and a small-size and inexpensive device for measuring body fat by means of the method. SOLUTION: Subject information such as sexuality is input into the device for measuring body fat (step 1). Body-of-subject measurement information on at least either a diameter of girth of the abdomen in a position of navel height or abdominal thickness in the position of the navel height is input into the device for measuring body fat (step 2). Subcutaneous fat thickness at one or more places is measured (step 3). A visceral fat area in the position of the navel height can be estimated according to a prescribed computing equation by means of the subject information, the body-of-subject measurement information and information on the subcutaneous fat thickness (step 5). A comparison is drawn between a value of the estimated visceral fat area and 100 cm2 taken as a reference value for diagnosis of obesity, which is proposed by Japan Society for the Study of Obesity, and a result of the comparison is also output (step 6).
