PURPOSE: A microwave oven and control method are provided to allow a high-voltage transformer to be scaled down in size and weight by improving the cooling efficiency of the high-voltage transformer. CONSTITUTION: A microwave oven is composed of a high-voltage transformer(2) for driving the microwave oven, a temperature sensor(4) for sensing the temperature of the high-voltage transformer(2), a cooling fan(6) for cooling the high-voltage transformer(2), and a control unit(8). The control unit(8) increases the rotational speed of the cooling fan(6) according to the temperature of the high-voltage transformer(2).
