A detergent composition

There is provided a detergent composition or additive comprising a solid carbonate salt obtainable by reacting a liquid primary alcohol with carbon dioxide. Upon hydrolysis the carbonate salt is converted to the original alcohol and carbonate. The present invention is very suitable for the formulation of high levels non-ionic surfactants in compact, and super compact granular detergents.
